1. Who We Are
Civic Action is an iOS app developed to help U.S. citizens engage with their government. It is operated as an independent project. For privacy questions, contact us at 2024ukburnbin@gmail.com.
2. Information We Collect
Guest mode (no account): We collect no personal information whatsoever. The following data is saved locally on your device only and is never transmitted to us:
- Your home address or zip code (used to look up your representatives)
- Your civic issues list
- Activity logs (calls made, messages sent, meetings attended)
- Voting plans and poll worker application notes
Signed-in account: If you choose to create an account, we collect and store:
- Email address — used for account authentication and password reset only
- Call activity count — an integer tracking the number of calls logged, synced to display on the Profile screen
We do not collect your name, phone number, address, device identifiers, or any other personal information.
3. How We Use Your Information
The limited data we hold is used solely to:
- Authenticate your account and allow you to sign in across devices
- Display your activity stats (call count) on the Profile screen
- Send password reset emails when you request them
We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose beyond the above.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for commercial purposes. Data is shared only in the following limited circumstances:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider stores your email address and call count. Supabase is hosted in the United States. See supabase.com/privacy.
- Legal requirement — if required by applicable law, court order, or governmental authority.
When you use the app's features, it makes requests to the following public government and third-party APIs. These services receive only the minimum data needed to respond (typically a zip code or location):

None of these services receive your name, email address, or account information.
5. Location Data
The app may request permission to access your device's location (While Using the App only) to improve the accuracy of representative lookups. This permission is entirely optional — the app functions fully using only the address or zip code you manually enter in the Profile screen. Location data is passed directly to the government APIs listed above and is not stored by us.
6. Data Retention
Guest users: Your data exists only on your device. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.
Signed-in users: Your account data (email address and call count) is retained until you request deletion. To delete your account and all associated data, email us at 2024ukburnbin@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
Civic Action is not directed at children under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Security
All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Account passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Authentication is handled by Supabase, which is SOC 2 compliant.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at 2024ukburnbin@gmail.com.
UK residents: You have rights under the UK GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
